SunSmart events

Whether you're organising a BBQ for your family of a picnic for 300, you can hold your outdoor events throughout the summer and protect people attending from getting sunburnt.  It's easy and it doesn't always have to cost money.

Prevent the whanau from frying in the sun and make your event a really cool place to be.  You may even find that more people want to come!

SunSmart Shade programme

The shade programme is no longer available from the Cancer Society, Auckland Division.  Hire companies do have ezi-up tents that you can hire out for your event.

If you have events that happen every year, have you thought about fundraising for shade ?   Contact us for more ideas for enhancing the shade at your events.

Remember to create a SunSmart event that everyone can enjoy!

  • Don't fry people attending your event - think outside the square and reschedule your event out of the most danagerous times of the day (before 11 am and after 4 pm).
  • Advertise your event as SunSmart and remind people to bring hats, shade, appropriate clothing and sunscreen with them on the day.
  • Remind people throughout the day to reapply sunscreen and wear their hats (for example, through PA announcements).
  • Remember to provide sun protection for the people working at your event!   It's important that sunscreen is not considered the only response to skin cancer prevention.
  • Content for PA announcements on SunSmart messages
  • Text you could include in promotional materials, flyers etc
  • Information on how to make your event a SunSmart and burn-free event

REMEMBER TO PLAN ALL OUTDOOR EVENTS SO THAT PEOPLE ARE PROTECTED
FROM EXPOSURE TO DANGEROUS ULTRA-VIOLET RAYS!
