Whether you're organising a BBQ for your family of a picnic for 300, you can hold your outdoor events throughout the summer and protect people attending from getting sunburnt. It's easy and it doesn't always have to cost money.

Prevent the whanau from frying in the sun and make your event a really cool place to be. You may even find that more people want to come!

How to be SunSmart in planning your outdoor event

SunSmart Shade programme

The new look shade programme has arrived for the 2007/08 season! The umbrellas are gone and have been replaced by more tents and will continue to help enhance the shade that you already provide at events to create a shady and burn-free environment.

SunSmart Shade programme - October 1st until 31st March

Users can borrow two tents at a time (depending on availability)
These tents are for protection from UV radiation so please do not use in windy or rainy conditions
A $50 bond (cheque or credit card only) for the two tents is payable at time of pick-up. The bond is refundable in full on return of all equipment in good condition and once the equipment has been checked. The Cancer Society reserves the right to retain bonds for late, damaged, wet, or dirty equipment. If the cost of repair is larger than the bond, borrowers will be invoiced for the difference. Borrowers will be invoiced in full for any lost equipment.
If your event has more than 3000 attending and is a free event, please email resources@akcansoc.org.nz to discuss other options.
Please note: It is advisable to book shade equipment early to avoid disappointment.

How to borrow our equipment

Plan how to make your event burn-free by using the SunSmart tips for planning your outdoor event
Go to the link below and fill out all the fields and submit your application.
The Cancer Society will contact you within 5 working days to let you know if the tents are available on that date.
Equipment can be picked up from 1 Boyle Crescent, Grafton between 2pm and 4pm. Bring your bond with you.
Equipment needs to be returned to 1 Boyle Crescent, Grafton between 8am and 10am so that it can be checked and your bond sent back to you if the equipment is not late, damaged, wet, or dirty.
