Local Government and Sun Protection
Skin damage from exposure to ultraviolet radiation (UVR) is a serious public health issue. Interventions and actions from local authorities and other agencies could play a significant role in reducing the burden of skin cancers. The Health and Safety in Employment Act 1992 requires employers to identify and control the risk from UVR faced by workers required to work outside. However, more needs to be done to raise the awareness among some employers about their obligations under the Act.
