Quit Smoking
One in five smokers think about quitting smoking or try to quit. It is beneficial to stop smoking at any age - the earlier smoking is stopped, the greater the health gain.
Within two hours of quitting smoking the nicotine is out of your system; within 24 hours the carbon monoxide is out of your system and your lungs work more effectively; after 12 months your risk of sudden death from heart attack is almost half that of smokers.
There are many different ways to quit smoking. You could go 'cold turkey', use nicotine replacement therapy, call the Quitline or gradually cut down cigarettes over a couple of weeks. Whichever way you choose, set a date and stick to it. Remember it's never too late to quit.
