Early Detection and Screening

Early Detection

It is important to be aware of changes in your body and consult your GP if you notice anything unusual.  Most changes are benign but if cancer is present finding it early may improve the odds of satisfactory treatment.

Screening

Screening is the testing of people with no symptoms to find early signs of disease.  The Cancer Society currently recommends screening for both cervical and breast cancers.  To learn more about what screening programmes are available in New Zealand check out :

The National Cervical Screening programme : www.healthywomen.org.nz/NCSP/default.aspx
