Lymphoedema Support Network

What is Lymphoedema?

Lymphoedema is an accumulation of lymphatic fluid causing swelling.  It results when water and protein builds up in the tissues, usually in the arm(s) or leg(s), but can also occur in other parts of the body.  It affects people of all ages.

Our aim is not only to support people who have Lymphoedema but to also make the condition better known in the wider community.   If you would like to become a member of the Lymphoedema Support Network we will offer you :

  • Newsletters three times per year
  • Telephone contact and support service
  • An invitation to bi-monthly meetings often with an interesting a guest speaker.  This provides an opportunity to informally share information and experiences.

Kiwi Lost Chord Club

The Kiwi Lost Chord Club is a service provided for people who need to learn new ways of communicating after having a laryngectomy (removal of the larynx or voice box).

It often helps to share experiences with people who have been in the same circumstances.  Friendship, support, practical advice and encouragement are offered to those who are faced with the prospect of losing a larynx.

The Kiwi Lost Chord Club offers the following support service :

  • A home and hospital visiting service prior to surgery and through the rehabilitation stage
  • Regular meetings which provides a great opportunity to join others who have had a laryngectomy.
