Patient and family accommodation information

Domain Lodge is owned and operated by Auckland Cancer Society to provide accommodation for cancer patients 18 years of age and older while they undergo active treatment.

It is a home away from home for cancer patients and their immediate caregivers and is situated 300m from Auckland City Hospital.

Reservations / Referrals 

Accommodation referrals and reservations for patients and caregivers can only be made through hospitals or registered medical practitioners.  On receipt of your referral we will forward a letter to you confirming your reservation at Domain Lodge.   For further advice or help call (09) 308 0161.

Who is eligible to stay at Domain Lodge?

• Cancer patients who reside in the Auckland region - which extends from Franklin District to the Far North District, i.e. from Mercer to Cape Reinga
  
  
• Patients who live outside the 100 km radius from Auckland City Hospital (ACH) receive priority
  
  
• Patients who live inside an 100 km radius will only be accepted under exceptional circumstances and must be referred to the Manager Domain Lodge - telephone (09) 308 0161 or email reception@akcansoc.org.nz 
  
  
• Patients admitted to Auckland City Hospital or referred on to a Rest Home are entitled to have two supporters stay at Domain Lodge at a cost of $25 per person per night 

Restrictions 

• Children under the age of 18 years of age are not permitted to stay with patients or supporters/caregivers
  
  
• All patients must be able to look after themselves individually or with the help of a supporter/caregiver
  
  
• No pets are allowed at Domain Lodge 

Accommodation Costs : 

Patients

Accommodation for cancer patients is free but if you have a Community Services Card you will need to declare it prior to treatment as the Society can claim a partial reimbursement and holders can claim travel and food costs.  To do this your referring health specialist will need to complete a Travel and Accommodation Form and send to the Ministry of Health prior to the start of treatment.  For further advice or help call (09) 308 0161.

Supporters/Caregivers

Each cancer patient is entitled to have one supporter/caregiver share the same room while they are staying at Domain Lodge.  Supporters/caregivers must be 18 years of age and over. A charge of $25 per supporter/caregiver per night is made unless the patient is a Community Services Card holder.
